Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
