Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your partner and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard body horror, but beneath Together lies a intense examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for a decade. Married in actuality in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their characters, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim transition from the big city to the countryside for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, sure, but that’s primarily where the conventions end. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the protagonists discover an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and delivers them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is solely Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making either of his characters the clear bad guy.

The couple confront the type of challenges that are inherent in long-term unions a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to another person, the metaphor does not come across as hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply look at your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
